Factory reset imac 21.5 mid 2010

Good Morning Apple Community,

To cut a long story short, I am currently in the process of selling my iMac i3 mid 2010 and need to factory reset it. I spent a couple hours last night going through posts on help but nothing seemed to solve the problem I having.

The mac came with OS X before Lion was released, I upgraded to OS X lion when it was released via the App store. My restore discs do not seem to work due to some error stating "this OSX cannot be run on your current OSX".

I try holding command+r on start up, where after a while the apple on the white screens turns into a circle with a line through it (like a no entry sign) and just seems to load for ever which leads me to just turning it off and on so i can actually login.

Does any one else have any idea as the restore disc does not work and command r does not work...

THanks n advance.

Put your 10.6 Install Disc in...

1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.

2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)

*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*

3. Click the Erase tab.

4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.

5. Select your Mac OS X volume.

6. Highlight the drive, select Partition Tab, then Format type... MacOS Extended Journalled, select the Security Options button, choose Zero Out Data, Erase... after completion do a new install.
