Wireless keyboard changes configuration

Hi,

I hope anyone can help.

Upon 3 fast consecutive caps my keyboard changes layout automatically and there is no way I can change it back other than taking the batteries away and later puting them back. It is REALLY annoying, especially because the backspace changes to forward space and the arrow keys have different functions.

The keyboard has new batteries, changing language does not help, OS is 10.6.8 with all updates.

Thank you all.

Is it possible that you have multiple input sources defined in the Language & Text System Preferences pane that you are somehow triggering a keyboard shortcut to switch between? What happens if you changes or deselect the options I have highlighted below? What happens if you click on the 'Restore Defaults' button?

Hi all,

Thank you for your answers.

Below my answers.

@xtremecarbon: I have tried, but I don't know where to remove it in the first place. When I try to install it over, the system tells me it is not neccesary, for it is installed already.

@captfred: I will check that, could be. Although I don't know how sticky keys would have anything to do with modifying the keyboard layout.

@iCare: This is not the case as such keyboard shortcuts do not exist in my computer.

Any additional ideas?

Hi all,

Sticky keys was not turned on and that is not the problem (no Universal Access problem here).

I've restored defaults in the Keyboard & Text Input and the problem has not been solved. The options showed by iCare do not show up in my menu.

The only thing I can think about is re-installing the keyboard software.

This is really a head scratcher.

Okay, I am going to try and attempt to solve the root causes of this problem. Please bear with me.

When you say "3 consecutive caps" do you mean hitting the CAPS lock 3 times, or typing 3 capital letters in succession?

What does "fast" mean? Are we talking .5 seconds? 3 seconds?

Are you able to try other keyboards to confirm yours is the only one doing this?

My suggestions are as follow.

Do not type/hit CAPS 3 times in a row.

Be wary of typing speed in those situations.

Try out a new keyboard to confirm if yours has a hardware issue.

Reinstall your OS to an eariler version (using the grey disks), then restoring a Time Machine backup to your computer.

Upgrade your OS to Lion (though I don't see this as a solution, same keyboard firmware)

Upgrade your keyboard to the new Lion model (same as new keyboard).

***If you're good with debugging, you can use XCode to play around with the HID kernel, I don't recommend this at all.

P.S. To get to the screen iCare is showing, goto System Pref<Keyboard<Keyboard Settings. If you don't see that page, there's a problem with your OS.
