OS 10.7.4 & E-Mail Account on Exchange Server

Since updating to OS 10.7.4 last week, Apple Mail on my MacBook Pro has been unable to send or receive mail from my office account on Microsoft Exchange Server 2010.l The account is recognized because when I deleted and re-created it using my e-mail address, all the other information was filled in automatically. I reinstalled OS 10.7.4 using the downloaded Combo updater with no success. Strangely, my iPad Mail program continues to work with the account. Any help would be apprciated.

Ditto here. My Mac Pro hasn't been able to connect to my work Exchange via Mail.app since the 10.7.4 upgrade. Have deleted and recreated the exchange mail account. Diagnostics says it can login. Hitting Take Account Online gives me -

There may be a problem with the mail server or network. Verify the settings for account “*server name*” or try again.

The server returned the error: The operation couldn’t be completed. (MFEWSErrorDomain error 56.)

It's really frustrating. Might have to rever to Entourage in the meantime.

I was having the same problem. Tried to reboot, move the "Mail" folder, delete and readd the account and nothing worked, the same "MFEWSErrorDomain error 56" error kept appearing. One thing I did try is I wanted to try to switch the account to IMAP. In order to get mail to do this I put in a dummy email address to bypass Mail's automatic setup and as soon as I did that my Exchange account started working again. I'm not sure that it's related, but probably worth a try to see if it fixes the problem.

I have finally gotten the account working again. First, I disconneted from the firm's server via ethernet, going entirely wireless. Nest I recreated the account using the Mail, Contract & Calendars preference pane in System Preferences, rather than in Apple Mail preferences. Somehow this weems to have worked, even when I have reconnected to the server with ethernet. Dont' ak me why or how.

I also have the same issue - getting the same error messages as outlined above. I've contacted our IT department and they are adamant that it's an Apple issue - and Apple say the same about my company! Have tried all of your remedies above, but nothing has worked. What's strange is that the autodiscover finds my detials but then disconnects and cannot reconnect to the server - however it only finds my detials once I try to change the type of account (ie) if I try setting it up purely as Exchange then it never connects. Bizarre and hugely frustrating............Peed off of Portsmouth.

So i have had a right go at this today and yes i have fixed my issue. Wooo Hoooooo. My problem seemed to be with what DNS provider i was using. I had been using Open DNS which was ok on the surface but it seems they do some odd stuff, anyway moving back to my normal isp dns address seems to have solved the problem.

If anyone doesnt get that then please give me a yell and i will try to help.

Cheers, Mike.🙂

Need to know what ISP you are using and what router you are using and do you know how to log into it? Need to know if you have specified a particular dns in the router or you just leaving it up to your ISP default? Have you set anything different in network settings? Is your VPN permanently on, how did you set it up, via the router or on the mac?

Currently in SW France and my ISP is Orange. Router is an Orange Livebox and I can log into it. Haven't specified any particular DNS within the router and this has occurred whilst using various ISPs (ie) Sky in Pompey - haven't changed any of the network settings. The VPN is not permanently on and I set it up on the Mac not on the router - I simply subscribe and that's pretty much it! Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!

Make sure your internal server name and external server name are the same. For some reason, after I did the OS upgrade, they got out of sync. As you probably already know, the internal and external server definitions are located in Mail>Preferences, then Accounts. As soon as I synced the two names, it solved the problem for me. Hope this helps.

Folks,

I've been struggling with this for a year off and on. I think it has something to do with Open DNS blocking domains. Once I VPN in to corporate I just got the error. From then on I am keep getting MFEWSErrorDomain error 56 no matter VPN or not.

Then I just used a Socks proxy so that I could avoid Open DNS blocking. It worked perfectly. The answer for me is to never block my corporate domains in Open DNS.

I am sure your issues are something similar.

Good Luck.
