iMAC 21" WIFI failing after 10.7.4 update

Add me to the list of those having this issue. I am not going to mess with the kernel update. I will just wait Apple fixes the freaking mess.

Moved back to using a CAT5 cable for now. Come on Apple, let's get this fixed!

BTW, is there an official bug report that can be researched and referenced?

Deleting all the other possible network connections from the list, solved the problem for me.

I've tried all the solutions posted on the internet:

-Rolling back the wifi driver

-Adjusting MTU

-Running background internet activities: ping and Pandora

-Deleting network settings: preferred network, keychain, etc.

-Resetting PRAM and NVRAM

-Router Settings

It has been a frustrating process trying to resolve this issue.

I finally have stable wifi on my 21 inch iMac.

I downloaded Signal from the App store, and played around with the recommended channels.

I tried channel 11; it worked for a little bit, but it eventually started dropping.

I switched to channel 1, now I am on day two. Wifi has no issues when after waking, and no random drops.

Wireless experts recommend channels 1,6, and 11, so I would start with those settings.

I hope you guys have as much luck as I did with this solution.

Anyone got an update on this? Do we have to buy 10.8 to resolve the issue or what...

I did read somewhere, not sure if this particular discussion or elsewhere, that someone had success by making the channel used by the wireless fixed instead of automatic.

So I went into the Airport Utility, under Wireless and Wireless option and set the 2.4GHz channel to "1" and so far that "seems" to have resolved the issue. I mean I have not had the wireless on this iMac drop for days.

Of course now that I posted this, it will probably go out within the next hour or so :-)

But for now - maybe - that resolved the issue.

channel 1, 2.4 GHz has worked so far for me too.........2 days now!!

So what is the FINAL official fix for reconnecting wifi ?

I guess / hope it will be 10.7.5 ...

I tried about everything except changing the .kext . Also severals Wifis since I travel a lot. Always the same problems. Sometimes a disconnect, somtimes the message that there is no hardware installed.

The solution that helped me so far is to plug a monitor adapter into the port. I don't even have anything hooked up, just the adapter dangling around. But it's working so far. I tried it in 2 different Wifis so far, with 2 different adapters (VGA, DVI). As soon as I pulled them out, the error occured sooner or later.

A rather obscure solution.

I just did a clean install of Lion. Traditionally I upgraded to Lion from SL 10.6.8 out of habit. So I did a clean install off the Recovery Partition. Now whenever I start up I have to select my AEX instead of it automatically connecting. Weird. I might try another clean install to see if that fixes the problem.

Haven't had any disconnects or drops that originally drove me away from Lion until 10.7.3. came out and fixed the problem.

Only time it's connected on boot up is after I reset the PRAM. Then if I shut down or restart after that? It continues to fail to connect.

I swear Lion has some serious issues with Wi-Fi....

Keep playing around with the channels until you find one that gives you a stable connection. I would start with 1,6, and 11.

I had same problem a few minutes ago when I updated my MBP late 2010 to 10.7.4 (there is really something about this firmware update - screws wifi). The WiFi didn't complain except that it didn't show list of available networks. iPhone worked fine on BiPAC 7700N wifi router.

Solution that worked for me:

Connected using ethernet, changed channel from 1 to 2. Turned off WiFi and turned back on. Done.

Hopefully, I wouldn't get frequent dropouts.

Same problem on MacBook Pro with 10.7.4. Restored system to 10.7.3 from Time Machine (shut down, hold down cmd-R during start-up, follow system prompts). Restored all the files and folders modified since 10.7.4 was installed.
