Snow Leopard won't install on fresh mid 2010 macbook pro.

I've tried everything from verifying hard drive, repairing hard drive, partitioning hard drive, writing zeros to hard drive, increasing kern.maxfiles number..

Hard drive seems fine.

Tried 3 different retail DVDs of Snow Leopard. It always fails with 27 minutes remaining.

Then I tried the whole erase scenario again, and made an external flash boot of Snow Leopard.

Still fails with 27 minutes remaining.

The retail version of SL is 10.6.3. I think your MBP needs a higher version (10.6.4) to install correctly. You need to call Apple and get replacement disc that were originally ship with your computer.

I called for replacement discs. They said the one I have should work. This macbook pro is a mid 2010 Macbook Pro. The replacment disk they were going to send is identical to the one I have, which is 10.6.3. But, thanks, though.

I finally got it to work:

Partitioned the drive, segregating 20GB. Erased/zero'd out the first 20GB.

Then, installed the OS on the latter 230GB.
