Q: how do I connect my macbook pro to a HDTV?

I am looking for a solution to getting a larger monitor/TV from my 2011 Macbook Pro. I know the airplay software is supposed to launch this summer... but is there a standard cable I can get in the meantime? I do video production with my mac and need a larger display. $1000 is a bit steep for the apple display...so thinking a HDTV would be more versitile anyway... thanks for your help. - MJ
