iTunes 10 Keeps Creating Temp File.tmp Files

I am using iTunes 10.6.1 (7) on Lion 10.7.4 and I have (yet again) noticed that iTunes has started creating multiple copies of Temp File.tmp in the iTunes folder.

It creates a copy every single time I do anything inside iTunes, including skipping a track or checking the iTune store. I thought that maybe my ClamXav Sentry scanner was causing issues so I removed the iTune directory from the scan and even shut it down alltogether. I have not shared my iTunes library either so I can se no reason that anything else is holding onto this file and causing iTunes to create a copy of the iTunes Music Library.xml file.

A disk repair has also not helped.

I have searched everywhere within the forums and via Google and can find no solution or explanation.

Its simple starts at some random time and they stops just as randomly. However this time is particularly bad as EVERYTHING I do inside iTunes caused the problem.

Any help or guidance greatly appreciated.

Regards

Anyway the new itunes is a shame!

Very slow!!!! Always thinking....very very slow!

Non-thought-out concept. I think it does not even mention who designed.

Why did not exist the sorting options most of view!????? For me it was the best option!!!!

Why cant see the artwork in the songs view!?

I planning to backgrade 😟 😟 ...where are you going,Apple!!????? 😟

Hey Niall Mallyon,

SO BACK TO THE SAME PROBLEM!!!!

I don't beleive this. It was the one reason I wanted to upgrade to itune 11.

Ok so my next step after trying every thing possible.

I'm going to make the big jump.

Rebuilt my librairy from scratch by reimporting all my media in a fresh librairy.

I'll keep you posted with the result.

This is my last hope to solve this issue.

If U have any result pls let me know!

I had a small idea regarding this issue and have tried something. It may be entirely coincidental but I thought it worth sharing.

Given the issue relates to a file used by iTunes and other apps for sharing I started there and thought things through from the way I use iTunes. I have no apps that link directly to iTunes and I don't share my library or look for shared libraries. I figured therefore that potentially something I have done in the past (when I used sharing and looked for shared libraries) that may be left over or corrupt.

Basically I turned on and then of homesharing to 'reinitialise' things and ensure sharing was reset.

May be complete hoccum but I am, as of writing this, experiencing a very long period without issues (over 2 weeks) and I have added a large number of tracks and apps during this time. I have deliberately not changed the way I use iTunes and the issue has not reappeared. Something I've not managed to achieve in the past, especially when adding tracks and updating apps etc

For the amount of time it takes to do its got to be worth a shot(?) I guess if you are using homesharing then turning it off and then on will have to be tried.

Will update if anything changes or the issue does not return.

My issue soley relates to the iTunes Library.xml file (also known as iTunes Music Library.xml with older libraries).

Yes there are permissions issues that appear hence the temp files getting created. But something is causing the permissions issues and iTunes only has one way around a iTunes Library.xml file issue and thats to create a temp one. Its automagically recreated from the .itl file anyway if it doesnn't exist.

Given the xml file is only used by applications to gain access to the iTunes library (thats as I understand it anyway) I assume this is updated when the iTunes Library changes in some way e.g a new app or track or a track count increase.

I'm not aware of anyone having an access issue with the .itl file. This is the main iTunes library database file and if you have issues with that then you really are in trouble although there are discussions around repairing that file as well.

If you read my original post it kind of explains where I'm coming from and the issue I and many others appear to have.
