First time nano user has a question

I just bought a nano for the first time. Does it get charged by hooking it into the computer? There seems to be no other way to do it. How long does it take to get charged? I tried to use it after having it in the computer for about 30 minutes, and it died quickly. Guess you'll think I'm completely ignorant.

It will take longer than 30 minutes to charge, and unless you buy an external charger the only way to charge it with what comes in the box is by connecting it to a USB port on a computer.

There's a battery icon on the display and alongside the device in iTunes. If the battery icons have a lightning bolt in them then it's still charging, if they have a little plug in them then the battery is fully charged. Read this:
