Any idea why I get a message that says "cannot connect to iTunes store" when I try to update apps? Weird thing is I can purchase music from iTunes...

Same here - got an iPad2 recently (with 20 plus years Windows behind me <sigh>), opened the store, downloaded "iTunes U" (because I am working in education), played with it, didn't like it, uninstalled it, decided to go buy a movie from iTunes, and I get either "can not connect" (erratic) or a blank screen with three options at the bottom - "Podcasts", "iTunes U" and "Downloads". I guess I must have looked at "Podcasts" at some stage. They give me:

  • "Podcasts" brings up podcasts
  • "iTunes U" brings up the go-to-the-store-and-look-at-it-to-download-it screen
  • "Downloads" gives me a "iTunes Store Terms and Conditions" link but nothing else. No buttons, options, whatever

The last is my problem (although I would like to get rid of the first two). What the heck do I have to do to spend my money on films and music?

Is there anyone out there who can point me at an authoritative, comprehensive explanation how this frikking application (and I am talking about "iTunes" native, not "U") is supposed to work on the iPad2?

Thanks for responding turingtest2 - I finally worked it out (no thanks to Apple!) - I am in South Africa at the moment and availability of content here is very limited (it seems) according to the bloggers - when I looked there is a tiny faint grey note at the bottom of http://www.apple.com/za/itunes/download ...User uploaded file

it seems to pick up South Africa and the UK - in fact I have set up an alternative UK apple ID so I suppose it sees my ipad, checks my "accounts" and constructs the note accordingly? Weird.

It would have been REALLY helpful to have a clear indication of content availability when setting up the South African account. I have found the several places where the experts explain how to work around this problem with fake US addresses and voucher payments. I don't want to do that.

I have to say that my limited experience with iTunes and Apple over three years (previously on PC/Windows) is way below what I would expect from Apple inc ... this incident must have wasted four hours of my life ... 😠
