How do I connect my Iphone 4s to an HDTV?
Also, does it have to be an apple tv, which apps support mirroring?

If you want to go wirelessly, you need an Apple TV. Otherwise, get the HDMI video adapter to connect to your TV.

I know that but does every app support this? Anything you do on the phone will show on the tv?
Yes but only some apps may show in Widescreen and the rest will be in Full Screen. Mirroring mirrors anything on your iOS device. Settings, Safari, Messages, etc.
So it can work on any HDTV and all apps in the app store work with it?

Keep in mind that "Airplay" is the ability to stream video, music, and CERTAIN apps. But "Airplay mirroring" on the iPhone 4S is the ability to stream EVERYTHING on your iPhone display wirelessly to your TV.

I don't see the turn mirror on. I double tapped the home button and swiped to the right twice and don't see it.
I was just at an Apple store asking similar questions. I bought a VGA adapter that will project from my iPhone 4s into a TV or through a projector. No Apple TV needed.
You can also get the HDMI device, and you can also get a device that has the three audio/video jacks that will work on an TV that will accept them.
The whole deal with Apple TV is to make it wireless. BTW, the $99 price sounds great BUT you have to buy the cables. The HDMI to HDMI apple cable is $19.00. You can use any other HDMI cable that will fit.
