Our house was broken into last night and MacBook pro was stolen. We have Time Capsule. I have an older Mac that I'd like
to restore the old files to the old computer. Completely inept at this. Please help!

You need to use either Setup Assistant or Migration Assistant to transfer your data.
However . . . the Mac you transfer to must be using the same or newer "major version" of OSX -- if the last backup was made on Lion, you cannot transfer to a Mac running Snow Leopard or earlier.
