Hello,

We are looking into using the Apple Configuration Utility on our new iPads.  I have one quick question regarding the iPads that we already have with the user's own personal information installed on there.   If I use the Apple Configuration on those iPads that are already configured, will the utility overwrite them?

Thanks!

Would the users have connected to that particular wi-fi network on their own?  If not, there would be no conflict.  One of the challenges with deploying and removing profiles is that with an encrypted profile deployed via USB must be removed by the same instance of iTunes that initially deployed it..or the deployment will fail......For apps, you might want to look at the Business VPP... http://www.apple.com/business/vpp/ It allows you to centralize payment for apps, so you don't have to fool around with reimbursing people for personal app purchases, or with unauthorized use of business credit cards...also, the iOS 5 deployment guide for education is outstanding..it's main focus is education, but has a lot of great stuff applicable to business and a lot of details... http://images.apple.com/education/docs/IOS_5_Education_Deployment_Guide.pdf

What settings are you planning on deploying with the IPCU profiles? In our environment we will add a profile( via USB) with an enterprise Exchange server connection to personal devices...since our users typically don't connect to another Exchange account, there are no conflicts with the IPCU profile.  Our profiles setup Exchange, require encryption of backups..all of the other security stuff is implemented in the connection to Exchange Server.  If say a timeout or password strength from exchange is more restrictive than one the user placed on the device themselves, my experience has been that the stronger, more restrictive setting will apply...

Thank you for your quick response.  We are new to the Apple Config utility so we just want to set up some of the basics, like WIFI password, and some Apps for now.  I was hoping to take one of those personal iPads and wipe it out and then put our config on it.  Not sure what would be the easiest way to do that.
