Safari wont open to its homepage at login

Hi all:

I have Safari set to "Open at Login" and to open with a new window, to the home page. It does open at login, but does not open the new window. Anyone know why? It's Safari 5.1.7, and 10.6.8. (Firefox behaves correctly, by the way)

Also, me mum (who lives in another country and to whom I'm telephone tech support!) reported to me the other day that she couldnt move around a safari window by grabbing it at the top, but only by grabbing it at the bottom. Has anyone heard of this bizzarre behavior before? I tend to think she wasnt doing exactly what she though she was doing, but who knows. These machines be weird from time to time!

Thanks

PS Safari opens the home page properly when I use Apple-n after login.

Mac OS X (10.6.8)

Hi..

Try troubleshooting Safari preferences (.plist)

Go to ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Safari.plist

Move the com.apple.Safari.plist file from the Preferences folder to the Desktop.

Relaunch Safari. If that helped, move the .plist file to the Trash. If not, move it back to the Preferences folder.

If that didn't help, from the Safari menu bar click Safari > Empty Cache

If that didn't help, back to the menu bar click Safari Reset Safari. Select the top 7 boxes, click Reset.

If that didn't help, go to ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db

Move the Cache.db file to the Trash.

Restart your Mac. See if after you reboot Safarri opens a new window to your Homepage.

Before taking the "drastic" step of removing all cookies,😉 I though I would see what happens on another mac in the house. Same thing. I'm on a desk top, the other one's a lap top, same system, different versions of Safari though, but in neither case will the homepage open at startup, although Safari launches.

Looks like it's a system problem, no? Still try the cookies? What happens on your mac?

hi. this "feature" has been annoying me about Safari ever since I upgraded by imac to Lion, and now i've upgraded my macbook and found that it does the same thing. When I open safari, it opens to whatever the last webpage I was looking at was. I would prefer for it to open to my set homepage whenever I open safari, but i cannot find where to set this option. The only related option that exists is the checkbox to "open to homepage when opening new tab" but this does not affect the behaviour of the first page that opens when you start safari - it still opens the last visited site.

Does anyone know how to change this?

Different problem; I've seen this addressed somewhere, and I wish I could point you to it, but I dont know where I came across it. Whilst your problem is it opens to the wrong page, mine is that it opens to no page at all. Your problem is specific to Lion; I'm in Snow Leopard. Might this help?......
