IPod nano won't restore and isn't noticed by itunes

Just bought a new 6th generation Ipod nano. I synched it with my computer just fine. After one work-out/use, it woudn't turn on. Charging did nothing (it stayed black). Restoring (Pressing standby button and volume down key) does nothing. Connected it to I-Tunes and ITunes does nothing (it doesn't even notice something has been plugged in). If I restore while connected, I finally get a indication of life ... ITunes tells me "An Ipod has been detected, but it could not be identified properly. Please disconnect and reconnect the Ipod, then try again. An unknown error occured (1601)".

I also had synched with Nike +, if that matters?

I'm lost. Nothing is working. Help!
