Is there an easy way to copy a playlist from iTunes to a USB-stick (for use in the car)? The folder structure of artist > album> track should be kept.
If you simply use drag and drop, iTunes copies all songs into one folder.
Not that I know. While iTunes will do other things, don't forget that Apple likely primarily has its own devices in mind in terms of support. Why aren't you playing this through your iPad, iPod, iPhone, or better yet all three, in your car? 😉
The other thing to do in this sort of situation is browse the scripts on the wonderful Douscripts web site and see if there's one there that does it.
There are two scripts under the description "Files to Folder Scripts" at Doug's Scripts, one of which copies selected files to a folder. Not clear if it also brings along the folder sturcuture. Not in a position to test it personally.

It appears the first one just puts an alias in a single folder. The second one looks like it copies the files to a single folder which is pretty much what the OP is doing already with dragging.
Bah! Well at least the problem should be amenable to a script.

Dougscripts has one that is called "export to album folders" but I am having some trouble using it, you might try it out.
I've just written a script for mavericks that takes an exported playlist from iTunes (m3u) and syncs it to a USB drive. It can even compress the files so you can fit more on.
