Connection attempt to iTunes Store was unsuccessful? Help???

My iTunes account keeps freezing, shutting down, not backing up or syncing my iPod and won't connect to iTunes. I've tried lots of things but nothing seems to work. I tried netsh winsock reset but nothing happened for me. I've tried troubleshooting and changing Internet settings. I've tried the firewall to allow iTunes tick the box. Any other ideas please? I thought it was my iPod so I tried clearing it and taking it back to its original settings but now it needs to connect to iTunes store which I can't do so I no longer can use my iPod. I've tried the troubleshoot lots and it's says everything is okay but says connection attempt to iTunes store was unsuccessful. Also am I doing the netsh winsock reset right?
