iPhone 4 apps won't open?

When I click on the app, it looks like it's going to open but then quickly goes back to the screen. I've tried turning off my phone, restarting it, and resyncing the apps on iTunes (where you check and uncheck the apps). Because I downloaded most of my apps on my phone, not the computer, the checking on iTunes only fixed the apps I bought on iTunes. I'm currently downloading the new update, 5.1.1, but still have 2 hours left. Will this fix it? How can I fix the apps I bought on my phone? Thanks!

iPhone 4, iOS 5.1.1

Here are a few things you can try.

Hold the home button and power button on your device until you see the apple logo - once phone reboots test.

If that didnt fix it try this.

Go to settings>general>reset>reset all settings - follow the setup assistant - test again.

If that didnt work try this

Connect to computer

Click on iPhone under devices.

Click on Apps tab

Uncheck Sync apps - click remove - click apply

Recheck sync apps - Recheck all apps desired- apply

If that didnt work then your down to the restore, and setup as new.

Once the restore is complete do not restore from backup - choose setup as new.

Make sure to backup your contacts/photos/Calendars/ before doing this since this will erase everything off of the device

I tried all the suggestions in here, INCLUDING resetting my settings. irritating, and useless. Then i came across Meg's. It works! AND, its the easiest one here.

Just go to the app store, and download any free app. Doesn't matter which one. You can delete it again later. But, for whatever reason, it works. PLEASE save yourself the headache and try this one first.

I traded in my iPhone 4 for the iPhone 5s today and synced my phone with iTunes on my computer to reload apps. They all appeared to load completely but most would not open...the initial screen would show up for half a second and go away. A few did open. I tried your idea of downloading one free app but it did not work. What did work was going to the App Store and searching for an app that wouldn't open. The button said "open" (not install, so I knew I did have that app already on my phone). I clicked "open" and then the app appeared to load all over again, which was odd, but it did work. Hope that helps someone with a similar issue.
