Are my broken headphones under warranty?

I received a pair of headphones when i got my iphone 4 but when i took them out of the package, i realized that the wire was showing and the white covering was no longer covering some of the wires so they are at risk of breaking. i tested them and only one of the headphones worked. Are the headphones under warranty?
