Q: Deleting pages from Aperture book

I can add pages---but the minus sign is greyed out; and hitting "delete" does not work either. I'm mystified (and irritated). Can anyone help me out?

Does your book have the minimum number of 20 pages? Or are you trying to delete the empty flyleaves (the blank pages at the beginning or end of the book)- these cannot be deleted.

Yea, it actually has 92 pages. I used autoflow at the start and re-ordering the photos the way I wanted them, I only ended up using 46 pages. I can't delete all the other pages. The button and the delete button on the keyboard don't work. It's really annoying

What is the Theme and the size of the book and your Aperture version?

It's extra large, and I believe snapshots is the theme. The theme button above the page viewer doesn't do anything when I click on it, nor the hardcover/softcover buttons.

I tried with the theme and the book size you are using  - no problem at all to delete pages: both the "-" button and the "Theme" button are active, when I select a page to delete in the "Pages" browser.

If this does not work for you, either your Aperture library needs repairing or you may have a problem with the permissions.

Have you tried any of the Aperture 3: Troubleshooting Basics: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3805

I'd recommend to start with repairing the permissions and repairing the Aperture 3 library (as described in the article above) by holding down the options⌥ - and command ⌘-key while launching Aperture and selecting a repair option from the First Aid panel.

If this does not help, remove the User Preferences from the library - this is also described in the Troubleshooting Basics:.

Post back, if this does not solve the problem.

    Regards

Repairing the library and database didn't work and I'm hesitant in rebuilding the database, does this delete your library? I don't want to lose all my work I've done on the book so far.

I couldn't find any file "com.apple.Aperture.plist" to delete.

I really appreciate your help Léonie.

    Hello Connor,

What is your MacOS X version and Aperture version? I tacitly assumed you are working with Aperture 3 like most poster here, and that makes me doubt, that your signature "Mac OS 10.6.4" is correct.

I couldn't find any file "com.apple.Aperture.plist" to delete.

How did you search for it? Did you look in the correct library - your user library and not in the System Library?

Quit Aperture, if it is open. To open the User Library, use the Finder's "Go" menu (if you are on MacOS 10.7.x) and hold down the options⌥-key, until the library appears in the drop-down menu. click it to pen the folder; then select the "prferences" sub folder. Move "com.apple.Aperture.plist" to your Desktop. Then try again.

Rebuilding the Aperture Library will not delete it, but if inconsistencies in the library also concern your book, rebuilding may revert some of the book edits, so before you rebuild it would be advisable to make a backup.

    Regards

    Léonie

Hey, my version is actually 10.6.8. I found the file and moved it to the desktop and re-opened aperture. Still nothing, I tried rebuiding the database. Still nothing. I think I may have to uninstall aperture and re-install it but I no longer have the disc nor the serial code!

Any other options? I don't want to loose the work I've done!

Is your Aperture version the most current version 3.2.3? If not, I would upgrade using the "Software Update" menu entry in the Apple-menu.

If you need to reinstall Aperture, there is no other way than to contact Apple with a proof of purchse - they may send you a download link for an installer.

See these links what may constitute a "proof of purchase":

The Aperture version is definately 3.2.3. Even if I did manage to find a proof of purchase, I would loose all the work surely...?

Would there be a possiblility of going down to the store and transfering the book to another device to order the book?

Thanks for your help anyway Léonie.
