Q: Battery life drops substantially after installing Verizon's latest carrier update.

I noticed my battery life dropping substantially after installing Verizon's latest carrier update.  Anyone else experience this?  Any thoughts?  Any way of uninstalling it

Consequently I also installed the 5.1.1 update (9B206) around the same time.  Carrier says "Verizon 12.0".

iPhone 4S, iOS 5.1.1

    Standard troubleshooting...

    • Try a reset by pressing the home and sleep buttons until you see the Apple logo, ignoring the slider. Takes about 5-15 secs of button holding and you won't lose any data or settings.
    • If still a problem restore from your backup.
    • If still a problem restore as new, i.e. without your backup. See how it runs with nothing synced to it.
    • If still a problem, it's likely a 3rd party app or a hardware issue.

I've had the same problem as you. My battery life has been terrible since the Verizon carrier update.

I tried resetting but it doesn't do anything.  I haven't tried restoring from a backup yet.  I will try later today and post my results.

I just spoke with apple on the phone and they told me to reset my settings and give it a few days and then call back if the battery life is still bad. I'll keep you guys posted.

I should list my unsuccesful steps I took before calling apple:

    • downloaded a new PRL through *228
    • killed all my open apps
    • ran my battery down all the way to 0 and then fully recharged to 100 overnight

Figured I'd give an update. I reset all my settings and the battery life got slightly better but is still pretty awful. I just got off the phone with AppleCare and this time they told me to do a full a restore, which I'm in the middle of doing now. I'll let you guys know if this works but I don't have a good feeling about it.

So now after performing the restore it seems that the carrier update was undone because now when I plug in to iTunes it asks me to update the carrier settings and I decline. Hopefully my battery life will be back to normal now.
