Call of Duty 4 punkbuster and PowerPc issue

So Evenbalance has decided to release an Punkbuster update..

This update is not compatible with Lion OSX anymore cause it simply doesnt work.

Cause Lion does not support PowerPC anymore i have to try and update it manually but no luck.

There seems to be an world wide issue with this noe!

First of all: I bought my Call of Duty 4 through App Store.

APP STORE?!?!?!? App Store is supposed to take care of these matters....

They are still selling it on appstore which means they are selling a faulty program on app store!!!!

Ive filed a lots of complaints to Evenbalance.com as well.... Something needs to be done here.

You cant just sell a product and then make it stop work in the middle of it!!!

Ive been playing for the past year with my iMac on Lion OSX and it has worked fine..

Someone needs to fix something here... otherwise i want my money back!!!

Has anyone found a workaround for this?

iMac, Mac OS X (10.6.5)

I am aware of all these things... this awareness is working 😀

But the fact is that now in App store is a 30 euro game which is being sold and it doesnt even work and there is no warning for it..

So App Store needs to get in on this too and complain to evenbalance and Activision..

Thanks for replying!

Yes and now. As long as App Store is usable on new macs only, it should not include PPC apps, as App Store cannot run on that generation. True, Snow Leopard is last to support PPC apps via Rosetta, and this should be the preoccupation of the user to check compatibility. Unfortunately, many do not read these minimal requirements, and hasten to update not knowing they are not compatibile with Lion, even if the PPC issue on Lion has been discussed in millions of threads, I guess.

Well! True... BUT.... I have been playing this on Lion since lion came out... so it HAS been working.

There cant be a compatibility issue AFTER the release..

But then again yes... Evenbalance! What are you doing?

I guess thousands of people by now have reported this to evenbalance..

But its stupid that they dont admit anything... I just want to see a post from them on whats going on..

...so far nothing... now im gonna try and install a dual win 7 boot and see if i can play it from there...

,,,, lets see what happens

I'm also affected. My MW is a apple store bought hardcopy with the disc etc. I was having the trouble in OSX 10.6.8 and upgraded all the PB files as directed, did not work. I upgraded to Lion to see if that might help and peed away my PPC stuff in the process, but the PB issue is still the same.

Waiting on the necessary update/fix from someone at Aspyr, Evenbalance, or Apple and ****** off about the wait and the issue.

What is this? Microsoft?

So they claimed to have fixed it!

BUT!!! They havent... they say that you should download a htm file and paste it into the COD4 pb/dll folder....

WHAT DLL folder.... who has a dll folder in mac=?!?!?!?!

Im still getting fu**in ****** about this,..

In lion, there is no dll OR htm folder !!!!!!!

Gimme strenght man!!!

Here is the reply from Evenbalance!

Note #3: Thank you but Mac does not have a DLL folder...
More ideas?
Ill paste it to the PB folder and see if it works!

Note #2: We are aware that many Mac users are having problems since Version 2.301 of the PB Client for COD4 was released for auto-update on Monday. Unfortunately for those users, a manual update may be required.

To manually update, Mac users should close COD4 if it is open and then download
mc002301.mac.

Then use Finder to move mc002301.mac into the pb/dll folder inside the COD4 application (you may have to right-click the COD4 icon and "Show Package Contents" in Finder to browse through to "pb" and then "dll").

Please let us know if you continue to experience issues. We apologize for the inconvenience.

LOTS of confusion becasue of PunkBuster... and might I add a little less than helpful for all the problems they have created this week... Carelss implementation across a wide spectrum of users.

People that own the CD version seem to have a fix... People who bought from the App Store are still being kicked.

I myself, do not have a "dll" folder. I have a "pb" folder with files inside... but no "dll". I placed the .mac file into the "pb" folder but still being kicked. I have tried each and EVERY solution on multiple boards listing remedies and procedures. Still beign kicked...

Standing by for Apple and PB to get their act together.... App store is a "1 Stop Store"... why am I even dealing with PunkBuster and putting code and files into a game I bought from App Store????

Standing by....

I got it to work using the mc002301.mac file that PB says to use in the dII folder as listed in the post above.

You need to click on that file they list.

You should get a browser window with a bunch of code listed when you open that file.

When the window with all the code opens, go to file in your menu bar and choose "save as."

You need to save the item with the name mc002301.mac inside the dll folder which is inside your PB file inside the Call of Duty folders

Open your Call of Duty folder so you can see the sub folders.

There will be a Call of Duty Data folder.

Open that.

Inside there will be a PB folder.

Open that.

Inside the PB folder there should be both a dll folder and a htm folder.

The dll folder will be above the htm folder.

You need to save that item in that dll folder and you need to make sure the file name appears as mc002301.mac when you save it. The machine will likely try to add .webarchive to the file name at the end. You need to get rid of that, or at least I did, and it works fine. If the machine doesn't let you cahnge the file name when you "save as" just save the file in that folder, and then change the name to end in .mac the same way you would change a folder name on your desktop.

Inside that dll folder you will see a bunch of other mcxxxx.mac files.

I'm using a store bought hardcopy of the game and after I got that file saved in there, it's been working fine. (knock on wood)
