iOS 5.1.1: Mail Cannot Connect to Exchange 2010 System\Accounts

Can anyone else confirm iOS 5.1.1 breaks (Exchange 2010) email?

iOS Mail is throwing an error "Connection to the server failed" after updating.

Cannot delete and add the email account again, verification fails.

Devices worked before the upgrade.

Thanks,

I am not sure it is highly selective. My phone was configured to connect to Exchange 2010 before iOS 5.1.1 was installed. When I upgraded the OS to 5.1.1 the settings were not affected. i would imagine that something in the OS is changed in 5.1.1 to a different default which is causing the issue, since my phone had a user configured setting prior to the update, the setting was not modfied.

The issue only happens here for phones with no previous exchange accounts running 5.1.1

Android 4.1 Jelly Bean is having the same problem. Recreating my domain account allowed both my new iPhone 4 running 5.1.1 and Galaxy Nexus running Jelly Bean to connect to our Exchange 2010 server. No idea why. Maybe Microsoft told Apple and Google to "fix" something in the current Exchange clients? Deleting the Exchange account on my phone, cold booting, and recreating the account had no effect.

Possibility: accounts that have previously been used with Outlook 2010 are failing with new iOS 5.1.1 and Android 4.1 phones but if they haven't used Outlook they seem to work OK? I've been setting up Exchange access on iPhone's of people who only use OWA (webmail), not Outlook, and they haven't had any problems. People who set up their iPhone's prior to 5.1.1 haven't had problems. I don't think anyone else here is running Jelly Bean yet. This still shouldn't fail on either phone platform. Once the phones are set up it seems to be safe to use Outlook. It's an interesting corellation. My "old" Windows account was only 2 weeks old.

Loose my connection possibility over night after fine working over round about 4 weeks with exchange 2010. Coming from iOS 5.1.1, than my company had upgrade from exchange 2003 to exchange 2010 without a problem for me- until yesterday: The complete exchange Account doesn't working (Account cannot approve) and the IT- Department told me, that they havn't change anything.

Any ideas or informations?

I too am having major problems with my Ipad2. I can get wifi and web pages, but I can not get my hotmail up. I used to be able too, but all of a sudden connection to server failed. My husband's ipad2 can connect to his hotmail using the same server but not mine. I have rebooted the ipad, I have returned it to factory settings, I have rebooted my wifi, I have tried everything and it's still not working.

We foud our issue with mail on iPad3 was a bad email message was clogging the pipe. It's acualy a common proplem with email not downloading that technacly unrelated to the device or software. One email mesage is ether corupt, has a bad charicter somewhere in the message (usualy in the subject), is too large for the server, and has a corupted attachment. Troubleshooting usualy involves removeing unessary messages from the server. In the case of hotmail going to the hotmail web site and removing the messages from the server so that the mail application no longer attempts to download the offending message. You can also move the messages to a temporary backup and move them back in sections to see at wich section the download fails. We moved all our messages to a backup and moved them back month by month to isolate where the problem email was.

I don't know if your using the mail application to access hotmail, all of that above assumes that your having trouble there. I hope this helps.
