How do I record 3 to 4 microphones simultaneously with my video footage into final cut pro using live capture.

You need to record this audio SEPARATELY...meaning 4 channels of audio? Or can they be captured as a stereo file? Because a simple 4 channel mixer will bring all into one interface, and then you have stereo out that you send to the camera.

If you need all as separate channels, then you go beyond the camera's ability, and need to look into hardware capture IO.

I use a Mackie 1220i Onyx connected via firewire to record multiple audio streams via SoundtrackPro (or Logic).

The 820i may be more closely aligned with the number of inputs you need to record.

The key thing is to make sure you have some sync cue (clapper) and that you record in 48khz /16 bit to match to the video.

If you have good audio, Plural Eyes sofware should be able to do the sync to video for you.

Just so we are clear - this is a two computer operation - Computer 1 captures live video, Computer 2 captures live audio.

However, if you are willing to mix on the fly and all you need are two channels for video cam recording, something like the Azden FMX 42 will mix 4 channels of audio down to stereo along with providing phantom power and a compressor limiter. You just need a real audio person running the dials to make it work.

Funny you should mention that. I called up Azden when I first got it and said "My meters aren't representative of the signal passing through." And sent it in. They sent it back saying that nothing is wrong. I DO know that analog meters respond differently but... Any a nice healthy reading on mine often equals a hot signal. Gets worse as the batteries wear down.

I like my Azden 42. Big bang for the buck.

I like mine too.

Still, it needs someone with headphones running the dials as the uV meters are often not representative of the input/output levels.
