Help with Migration Assistant

I just purchased a Mac Pro and as a former PC user, I am trying to move files from my Seagate external hard drive using Migration Assistant. The hard drive is hard wired to the Mac and the Mac "sees" it because it shows up in "Finder". But when I use Migration Assistant, it just hangs up searching for it. What am I doing wrong!

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.4), Brand new purchase.

thanks for your feedback, I did everything mentioned in the article. However, when I get to step 8, "Mac" inspecting the PC, it hangs up. Just keeps on searching and never displays anything. I tried connecting them over both Wifi and Ethernet cable. I think the connections are OK because I get to the password share page just fine.

Any other suggestions?

Yes. While OS X has basic minimal support for NTFS, it is not that good even for read-only and has trouble seeing and mountiing PC drives. For which there is a solution that works: Paragon NTFS for OS X - the demo is free to try out and use and will allow writing to NTFS volumes.

and of course you can run Windows on one of the internal drive bays
