How do you choose what music goes onto your iPhone?

My iPhone has finally hit capacity, mostly with music. I don't want to delete things from my library, because my comptuer has plenty of space, but I want to limit what gets sync'd to my iphone. I.E. There is old music that I don't listen to regularly anymore that I don't want on my iPhone, but I would still like to keep.

I know one option would be to create a playlist and just sync that playlist, but I don't want to have to drag new stuff into a playlist every time (Because I know I will forget.)

Does anyone have any suggestions? I already have "Convert to 128kbps AAC" selected.

"I know one option would be to create a playlist and just sync that playlist,"

That is the best option. Or create multiple playlists (including smart playlists which are updated automatiically) such as Favorites, recently added, not listened to in last year, etc.

Piece o' cake...

Create a regular playlist and name it something like Not on iPhone.

Add songs to it you do not want to sync.

Create a smart playlist named something like Sync to iPhone.

Match all rules;

Playlist is Music

Playlist is not Not on iPhone.

Like this...

User uploaded file

Select the iPhone in iTunes and click the Music tab.

Tick Sync music and tick Sync selected playlists, Artists Albums and Genre.

Tick the Sync to iPhone playlist and click OK.

If you want to change what is on the iPhone, simply add/remove items from the Not on iPhone playlist then plug in the iPhone.
