Just want to brag about my new 16GB RAM and 512GB SSD!

OK, so this isn't a question... but I wanted to share my experieces of the last two days.

On Tuesday I got 16 GB of RAM and a Crucial 512GB 6Mbs SSD. I bought both products from Amazon, because I get two day shipping from them, although the Crucial SSD was 52¢ cheaper at the Crucial site.

I'm very, very happy with my speed. Whereas I was paging in and out on 8GB, I have 7GB free wired RAM available now, even running the same apps that I ran all the time when I only had 8GB. And even though my Time Machine backup was on a Firewire 800 connection, it only took about 2 1/2 hours to 'restore' from TM to my new drive, using an USB Lion thumb drive to boot.

I would encourage anyone wanting lightening fast speed on their MBPs to follow this upgrade path.

Just bragging,

Clinton

An SSD in a MacBook Pro with 16 GB must be the fastest laptop on Earth.

Oh, yes, more than satisfied! And it really wasn't bad... I always keep items on my Amazon WIsh List and check to see when the prices may go down - as they did on both the RAM and the SSD (the SSD went UP about $50 from when I purchased it, as of yesterday, I think).

And, besides, think it's a good investment. I kept my last MacBook Pro for 6 years - only until I couldn't upgrade to the latest OS. I certainly didn't keep my "Fat Mac" (512ke - with the 800k floppy) that long! I live in a nursing home and have very nice friends! When I finally get out of here I'm going to ask for a Thunderbolt Display: it will, altogether, be both the fastest and most productive Mac I've ever owned. Of course, I thought the same of my Mac fx with a 24-bit color card and 19" monitor!

I too upgraded to 16gig Ram and 512 SSD from Crucial, and the speed is amazing, It will now boot from cold in 8 secconds and things like AI and PS take around 2-3 secconds to be ready from cold.

Cost me around £300 and was more than worth every single penny.

I removed my DVD drive as I was going to put my old Platter drive in but decided against it to save on battery and heat.

I had issues previous to the upgrade with heat from my mbp, it would run sometimes at 90-100c but now its amost always running at around 60c.

Battery lasts longer and work is easyer.

Just want to brag about my new 16GB RAM and 512GB SSD!
