That one's consistent with disk/file damage. The first thing I'd try with that is running a disk check (chkdsk) over your C drive.

XP instructions in the following document: How to perform disk error checking in Windows XP

Vista instructions in the following document: Check your hard disk for errors

Windows 7 instructions in the following document: How to use CHKDSK (Check Disk)

Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, or use chkdsk /r (depending on which way you decide to go about doing this). You'll almost certainly have to schedule the chkdsk to run on startup. The scan should take quite a while ... if it quits after a few minutes or seconds, something's interfering with the scan.

Does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? If so, can you get an install to go through properly afterwards?

I ran the disk check, and slelected both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors. I checked it a few times while it was running, but then I missed it when it was finished. The next time I looked it was ready for me to log into my Windows account. Is there a way to see what the results were? Should I try to remove the remaining Apple programs before I try to reninstall?

I tried to install again, and ran into the same problems. When asked if I wanted to repair or completely remove iTunes, I selected Completely remove. The other apple programs were in the list in the control panel like before. I left that alone and ran the installer again. When it was done I got the same errors (Error 7 (Windows error 126)). When I went through the list uninstalling, I had the same thing happen on Apple Mobile Support (The Installer has insufficient prileges to modify the file: C:\ProgramFiles(x86)\CommonFiles...).

Okay. If we can't fix the damage, we'll try hiding it from the installer.

In Computer, open your C:\ drive.

Open the "Program Files (x86)" folder.

Open the "Common files" folder.

Open the "Apple" folder.

Rename the "Mobile Device Support" folder Mobile Device SupportOLD

Try another uninstall and reinstall. Does it go through without the error this time? If so, does iTunes start launching without the error 7 now?

374 views, 6 replies - I will never be able to have iTunes on this pc again, after going through apple (nothing) and its users. This is why I will never purchase anything with an i or made by apple. I never have anything happen like this with mp3s/windows media players/pcs. I urge you to do as I and never update/use apple again. I am logging out for good; anyone want to buy an iPod touch????

If you are still having your issues try this:

Go here: http://www.revouninstaller.com/revo_uninstaller_free_download.html and download the free version of Revo. Revo is a program that will install almost any program, even if the built in uninstaller fails. I had the a simillar issue as you. Be sure the user you are logged on as, has administrative rights. Install Revo and run it. You will see all the programs that are installed on your computer. Right click on Apple Mobile Devce Support and chosse uninstall. Chose the advanced option. After the install finishes, it will search your computer for any registry entries and files that where left behind. The registry scan found thousands of entries on mine. Choose select all, and delete all. Also do this on the file scan. Restart your computer and you should be able to install Itunes.
