i tried opened it from other computer or iphone using browser and same connection, all of them could open it. only my macbook can't. for your info, the connectivity is from my house's conectivity. so there won't be any NO Facebook policy and i am the only one who mostly using the connectivity. my parents seldomly using the connectivity.

Let's also try something a bit more devious to see if the problem is constrained to the browsers. Open the Terminal app (in Utilities) and type the following:

telnet www.facebook.com 443 help

It should send back a bunch of HTML stuff that comprises a "Page Not Found" webpage. If that occurs, it would mean that the Mac IS getting across ok, and the browsers are mucking up the process. Can't put up a sample of what to expect right now, cause at my workplace the Book of Faces is banned.

If no HTML code is forthcoming, then the issue goes down to lower levels in the Mac's TCP/IP stack. Holler back what you get.

Oh well. So much for that theory. Although I do find it rather curious you have an extra line, albeit commented out, for gs.apple.com to be directed to 74.208.10.249 which whois says is "1&1 Internet Inc.". It's curious in that it implies that at some point in the past some piece of software was running in your machine that added that. Makes me wonder if it's still floating around somewhere or added something some place else mucking things up. Does this ring any bells in your mind?

Of course if you added that line and later commented it out that explains it and this is a dead end clue.

It does sound like www.facebook.com is being blocked for some reason. Facebook owns a bunch of domains... www, www.www, www.www.www and so on (I'm not sure how far up they went). A lot of people can bypass blocks by using one of the alternatives. I'm still curious if it is actually blocked or if the problem is elsewhere.
