Check your settings in System Preferences > Trackpad
And just wiping the trackpad with a damp lint free cloth can help.
Yes, I've run across the same issue when I have the Tap to Click gesture enabled. Hope the next feline has some way of dealing with this. Here's the official answer on dealing with touchy trackpads: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1449
As ridiculous as this may seem IT IS A BATTERY PROBLEM. As Lithium batteries age they may generate gas that causes the cells to bulge applying stress to the tracpad and making it totally neurotic. To check remove the battery and run the computer on the plug in power supply. If this fixes the problem buy a replacement battery. This will cost you at Apple but is less than $30 for the same thing at several of Amazon’s retailers.
