Apple Device Support hogging CPU, unable to download podcasts

This seems to be a well-trod problem, but after spending more than an hour following directions, I'm ready to ditch iTunes.

Finding Apple Device Support using 50 percent of a CPU and unable to download podcasts, II followed instructions to remove and reinstall iTunes to my Windows XP system. Also, couldn't copy or save connectivity test results as advertised -- which didn't seem to offer any clues. After all, nothing changed. What gives?

Close your iTunes,

Go to command Prompt -

(Win 7/Vista) - START>PROGRAMS>ACCESSORIES, right mouse click "Command Prompt", choose "Run as Administrator".

(Win XP SP2 n above) - START>PROGRAMS>ACCESSORIES>Command Prompt

In the "Command Prompt" screen, type in

netsh winsock reset

Hit "ENTER" key

Restart your computer.

If you do get a prompt after restart windows to remap LSP, just click NO.

Now launch your iTunes and see if it is working now.

If you are still having these type of problems after trying the winsock reset, refer to this article to identify which software in your system is inserting LSP:

Start by making sure you have the latest version of iTunes.

Check this Apple article out-> Apple software on Windows: May see performance issues and blank iTunes Store

If it's what you're seeing, you can try resetting Winsock as a temporary fix.

1. To do so, please do the following in an administrator user:
Windows Vista and Windows 7: Right click All Programs and choose Accessories > Command Prompt. Choose to open as an administrator.

Windows XP: Click Start > Run and type in cmd.

2. Enter the following command:
netsh winsock reset

3. Restart the computer and test the issue.
Note: If the issue returns, third-party software may be reinserting the LSP.
