Upgrading iPhone 4 to iOS 5.1.1 Frozen

We started upgrading this morning and 3+ hours later it hasn't moved. The iphone is on the apple icon with a sliver of the progress bar filled and it's not moving. Itunes is frozen on the Updating iPhone Software, again with only a sliver of the progress bar moving.

First, what can we do to get it moving?

Second, we are actually going away for the weekend and not sure what we can do. Can we disconnect the phone and just restore it?

Any quick response would be really appreciated.

Hey Cadwell. Mostly this is the result of having some sort of Anti-virus security system on a computer because what happens is that the program doesn't understad the signal that iTunes requires in order to communicate with the apple servers so it cuts it off. if you do not have a anti-virus security system, it could also be a resulkt of a time out error from your internet speeds not being fast enough. You can test your internet speed at speedtest.net. For the best results, you would want as a recommended minimum as the results below:

PING: 20-150ish ms

Download Speed: 3-7mbps

Upload speed: 1-5mbps

Although this is mostly wildly affected from download speeds. If the issue is with the internet speeds it would be good to consult your ISP (internet service provider).

If iTunes remains frozen you could quit and try again by starting your windows task manager by holding control, alt, and delete!

Worst comes to worst, you could follow this instruction to remove iTunes and related components, and reinstall it. This will not affect any information you may have in iTunes.
