wunbadapple, I can't claim that I understand any of it, but it sure worked! You deserve major kudos for taking all this time to figure it out. I can't believe it, that A) it's working and B) no one at Itunes Support could provide this info. After three emails telling me it was my fault, I had given up. But it's WORKING NOW! Thank you so much, sincerely!

Glad I could help. I have been doing this since before Steve Jobs got his first Altair. I actually struggled with posting the solution as I didn't want to do anything to help Apple. I do want to help individuals though and that won out.  Do me a favor - I know it won't be easy, but migrate away from the Apple ecosystem. There are cheaper, better, less restrictive solutions for every product they produce.

As a lifetime technologist I have little respect for what Apple has become. Like all technology companies, they are built on the ideas of others. The difference is they promote the ideas as their own. They produce poorly designed hardware that is hidden by pretty colors, good industrial design, and marketing. There is a reason a complete subindustry has sprung up to repair iPhone glass. They succeed not because of their product superiority, but because of anti-competive business practices, slick merchandising and an isidious customer methodology I can only liken to a drug dealer or loan shark. Once you start with them, they make it almost impossible for you to stop using them. This has allowed them to become arrogant and oblivious to customer issues and never take responsibility for problems they have created. Migrate away.

Wow, iTunes seems to be allowing me to preview the entire 90 seconds now.  Thanks for the info!

You are freakin awesome!!!!  WEEKS of trying everything and this worked perfectly.  It had to be something in windows since previews worked fine on my iPad but not my pc.  THANK YOU!!!  I'm a total novice when it comes to that stuff and this was a breeze ... 5 minutes of online reading about DNS and did the change and BAM.  Really appreciate it.  Now on to whatever else apple will mess up with the next update!

Wunbadapple:   After living with the non-iCloud 'you will always have access to your purchased music' (NOT) I am looking for something to go TO but have not found anything suitable.  I teach fitness classes and every studio is iPod ready these days.  Suggestions are welcome ... As are music sites that are as easy to use/search as iTunes.  I hate amazon ... You have to know exactly what you want and one of the benefits of iTunes has been finding similar type songs.  I won't do spotify because I don't want to pay monthly and am kind of stumped right now.

It has nothing to do with Windows. Someone that was having the issue on an iMac solved it this way. I have worked in networking for over 30 years and problems can be dependent on many different combinations of variables. Trust me on this. As for alternatives, the iPod ready scenario is exactly the insidious nature of Apple. They use the ecosystem to limit customer choice allowing them to produce unreliable and poorly designed hardware (I am talking inside here - not industrial design), software, and customer service that is steadily approaching 'so what - try to go somewhere else'. You may not like Amazon's site, but how did not having previews work out for you. Wait till the next frustrating problem that they blame on you. Would you stand for that from anyone else? The only way to break their hold is  to start using alternative vendors whenever possible.  There are also many smaller distributors of music like CDBaby for indie music and you can easily load and play MP3 on an iPOD so using the music you buy elsewhere is not an issue. Start leaving slowly one bit at a time before your friends and family have to hold an intervention to break your addiction.

I took your advice the other day by purchasing music through www.breakbeat.co.uk instead of iTunes, and although I paid more due to the exchange rate, I'm glad I did it.

The quality of the Apple products I own seem to be extremely poor.  My iPod touch needs a new headphone jack, my iPhone needs a new battery after 1½ years and I've already replaced the heat sink and airport card on this Macbook (using Bootcamp).  It will be a slow process, but I will do my best to get off Apple products, ESPECIALLY if the iPhone 5 (or what I'm sure will be called the 'new iPhone') uses the new dock connector.

My 2¢ and I know Apple couldn't care less.

Point taken wunbadapple ... I am putting together a game plan for how I can do this over a period of time.   It seems like the ipods have been getting shoddier by the year.  Battery issues seem to be constant and if you get one year out of them, it's a miracle.  Also the hold button is always the first thing to go ... they do design them to look nice but it's like Judge Judy says ... beauty fades.  I'll be researching alternatives for the ipod but having just sunk a lot of money into a new computer and now having to repurchase a lot of music that's gone, it's going to be a while.

I agree with you, and I am glad that I don't use Apple products. I like my Sansa Clip just fine. I am happy not to be one of the worshippers at Jobs's shrine. If I were an American, I would be pretty ticked off at Apple outsourcing so many jobs and paying CS staff less than Lululemon (yes, I read the NYT too). I agree that Itunes has convinced people that they've cornered the market, and it's up to the consumer to find alternatives. The truth is that people are so slavishly devoted to Icrap that they will put up with anything, and so Apple doesn't have to care. But those of us who still consider ourselves to be individuals can at least have the satisfaction of taking our business elsewhere.

Afraid not.. on my end anyway.  I saw that solution on another thread a while back and tried it right away, but it didn't change anything regarding the previews.
