1G ATV issue.
Downloaded an HD movie 1080p and tried to sync from my iTunes. ATV doesn't even show the HD version as a syncable list. Only the DS version shows up in the list that I can sync... driving me nuts. What am I doing wrong???
MacBookPro17, Mac OS X (10.6.4), AppleTV (1G), iPad (64g+wifi).
Nothing is going wrong, the Apple TV 1 does not support 1080p video.
But itunes shows the movie I bought is playalbe in 720p as well... that means nothing then... still can't sync this HD to my ATV unless I download the SD... is that it?
If the movie is 1080p, it's 1080p. If it can be played by a device it can be output at any resolution. The fact of the matter is the Apple TV 1 cannot play 1080p files. What iTunes is telling you is that this movie is available in SD or HD and depending on how you have set your iTunes preferences HD will be downloaded at 720 p or 1080p, you've chosen to download it at 1080p and it isn't compatible with your Apple TV.
I see. So if I change my download preference to 720p and download the HD version again, it should be playable on ATV 1?
A 720p movie should be fine providing its not at 30 fps, most movies are 24 fps.
Thanks vm. One last question. Is it normal my tab doesn't even sync if it's 1080 file or it syncs at least and not playing?
iTunes should not sync any content to your Apple TV 1, that your Apple TV cannot play. There may be some exceptions to this because of the way content is tagged, it is possible to incorrectly tag content and fool iTunes into syncing it with the Apple TV although it is not compatible.
