I need a cable that will allow me to dock my ipad 1st gen without being on the keyboard dock

Is there an official cable that i can buy that will allow me to dock an ipad 1st generation without having it on the dock station? I have a docking apple keyboard compatible with the ipad, and it would be silly to have to buy a whole new keyboard just to be able to take notes more effectively in class if i could simply purchase a different cable that would allow me to connect the two pieces of hardware without requiring the ipad to be physically on the dock itself.
