Err 9 on iPad

I was adding apps to my iPad and suddenly the screen went black with the Apple in the middle. Connected it to itunes and tried to restore but received an Error 9. Tried the recommended system resolutions but nothing worked. When connected to Mac and itunes it goes through extracting software; preparing iPad for restore; waiting for iPad then I get the following error: "The iPad could not be restored an unknown error occurred (9). Did I fry my iPad? Do I need to take it to an Apple Dealer? Is there anything else I can try? HELP!

Mac Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.8)

You can try using Recovery Mode found in this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808

The article TS3694 has further information about error code 9:

Error 9: This error occurs when the device unexpectedly drops off the USB bus and communication stops. This can occur if the device is manually disconnected during the restore process. This issue can be resolved by performing USB isolation troubleshooting, using a different USB dock-connector cable, trying another USB port, restoring on another computer, or by eliminating conflicts from third-party security software.

Otherwise, you'll likely need to bring it to an Apple Store.
