Q: Moving back to OS X Lion

Hey guys,

 

Half of a year ago, I completely wiped my drive and installed Wndows 7 due to software required for self education such as pl/sql, mssql and few windows based games. Recently, got a dedicated PC with Win7 preinstalled, was wondering on where to download OS X Lion to install it back and if it is going to be free since I own mac book pro Early 2011. As you might know, there was no OS X install CD in my mac book pro package. Just want to have OS X back sicne its way better to my personal views, the only and huge disadvantage is a lack of software for mac

The internet recovery will let you repartition the drive before reinstalling. Downloading from a torrent is illegal.

 

If you had Snow Leopard originally then reinstall from the DVD, update to 10.6.8, then redownload from the App Store. No additional charge.

    If your Recovery partition is still there you can reload by holding CMD R  at boot time.

    OS X Lion- About Lion Recovery

    Using Lion Recovery when no DHCP service is available


    If you did not remove the Recovery HD partition on the drive, then you can boot into the Recovery HD and reinstall Lion. This also assumes the drive is still partitioned using GUID. However, if that's not the case then you will have to use Internet Recovery so you can repartition and reformat the hard drive prior to installing Lion.

     

    Install or Reinstall Lion from Scratch

     

    If possible backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive.

     

    Boot to the Recovery HD:


     

    Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.

     

    Erase the hard drive:

     

     

    1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
    2. After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    3. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Quit DU and return to the main menu.

     

    Reinstall Lion: Select Reinstall Lion and click on the Install button.

     

    Note: You can also re-download the Lion installer by opening the App Store application. Hold down the OPTION key and click on the Purchases icon in the toolbar. You should now see an active Install button to the right of your Lion purchase entry. There are situations in which this will not work. For example, if you are already booted into the Lion you originally purchased with your Apple ID or if an instance of the Lion installer is located anywhere on your computer.

    Ty for this one, however ive got no partition left, sicne drive is wiped out.  Shouldnt be a problem, will simply download official version from some of the torrents, the last question still remains If ill have to pay for that one or not. When i received my lap to, i just upgraded to os x lion for free with leopard pre-installed.

     

    Will my os x lion somehow know that it should be free for me?
