you can get a 1TB hard drive for your computer for $100+ (and you can keep getting more), the max you can get (on an expensive iPad) is 64GB. no contest in my book

plus the iPad version is far more limited as far as editing and sound shaping go.

i've never tried to see what an iPad's max is (mostly because i have a lot of other things on it)

it's hard to argue with gear you already have...

the best advice i can give you is to set it up and try recording BEFORE you intend to actually use it. if you think you're going to be recording for 3-4-5 hours with the band, then record now/tomorrow for 3-4-5 hours, even if it's dead silence ... see what happens (and please post back and let us know)

I would then move it to my mac to edit.. do you think that would work?

the moving and editing part will work, i just don't know what GBi's record length limits are compared to the mac version

any interface that is mac compatible will work.

i use a PreSonus 10-channel interface, but there are many in the under $100 to $150 range, and even an analogue mixing console will work if you just need two channels (if it's just for recording rehearsals, then high quality isn't the priority)

here are some of the more popular interfaces:
