the best advice i can give you is to set it up and try recording BEFORE you intend to actually use it. if you think you're going to be recording for 3-4-5 hours with the band, then record now/tomorrow for 3-4-5 hours, even if it's dead silence ... see what happens (and please post back and let us know)

any interface that is mac compatible will work.
i use a PreSonus 10-channel interface, but there are many in the under $100 to $150 range, and even an analogue mixing console will work if you just need two channels (if it's just for recording rehearsals, then high quality isn't the priority)
