mail refusing my password

Since last night I keep getting told my password is not accepted. This is the password I have used since I first set up my account years ago.

I called U-verse to try to resolve this oh-so-frustrating problem. The rep, who was nice and very helpful, had me make changes to my mac Mail incoming/outgoing server settings, but I still got the dialog box stating my password was rejected. FYI: remember to screen print your before and after versions to document the changes. The U-verse fix didn't work and I was then advised that U-verse did not support mail clients such as Mac Mail.

After a awhile, I was able connect to the server successfully -- but this was intermittent - once every two or three days. As a rule, I kept the Mail application closed because I was getting the "password rejected" dialog box every 5 minutes or so.

However, the problem finally resolved itself. From what I read and heard from others that it was an issue with

the server. I still have to manually click on "Get Mail" to get incoming messages, but otherwise, it is back to normal.

Hope this helps.

Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and mac Mail 4.5.

I think they're slowing nudging people to the fact that MobilMe & .mac is going away shortly in favor of iCloudinees! 😟

Get an iCloud account first.

MobileMe & dot Mac will still work last I heard.

iCloud Mail setup, even in 10.4/10.5…

Don't delete your old account yet. Just setup a new one in Mail>Preferences>Accounts, little plus icon. Choose IMAP as account type, not ,mac or MobileMe.

IMAP (Incoming Mail Server) information:

â–ª Server name: imap.mail.me.com

â–ª SSL Required: Yes

â–ª Port: 993

â–ª Username: example@me.com (use your @me.com address from your iCloud account)

â–ª Password: Your iCloud password

SMTP (outgoing mail server) information:

â–ª Server name: smtp.mail.me.com

â–ª SSL Required: Yes

â–ª Port: 587

â–ª SMTP Authentication Required: Yes

â–ª Username: example@me.com (use your @me.com address from your iCloud account)

â–ª Password: Your iCloud password

Thank you so much BDAqua!!!! I followed your instructions and I have solved the problem on my Iphone mail setup!!!Though I still have a problem setting up my Mail Account in my macbook. When I push the + button it appears a step by step window where it asks me to put my email and password and then to press continue. When I do that the same message comes out that I am using an incorrect password. Do you have any idea and avoid this going through windows?

Thank you again for being so kind to assist.

Sometimes you have to trick Mail out of trying to think for you, my guess is that Mail used the old built-in mail.me.com instead of imap.mail.me.com & such once it sees a. me/.mac addy.

So, painfully add a bogus IMAP account for something like vassil@vassil.com, wait for mail to give up on those steps where it tries to connect, then continue to the end where this bogus account is setup, then go back in & edit the server info & whatever else to the real one.
