mail refusing my password
Since last night I keep getting told my password is not accepted. This is the password I have used since I first set up my account years ago.

Are you really running 10.5.6, if so please update to at least 10.5.8, this is the most up-to-date version of Leopard 10.5.x. To update your profile please click the Profile Update link.
Also try re-starting the computer in Safe Mode , this will clear some caches. It is possible one or more is corrupt.
I called U-verse to try to resolve this oh-so-frustrating problem. The rep, who was nice and very helpful, had me make changes to my mac Mail incoming/outgoing server settings, but I still got the dialog box stating my password was rejected. FYI: remember to screen print your before and after versions to document the changes. The U-verse fix didn't work and I was then advised that U-verse did not support mail clients such as Mac Mail.
After a awhile, I was able connect to the server successfully -- but this was intermittent - once every two or three days. As a rule, I kept the Mail application closed because I was getting the "password rejected" dialog box every 5 minutes or so.
However, the problem finally resolved itself. From what I read and heard from others that it was an issue with
the server. I still have to manually click on "Get Mail" to get incoming messages, but otherwise, it is back to normal.
Hope this helps.
Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and mac Mail 4.5.
I am afraid doing a safe boot made no difference.
Thanks for suggesting I update my profile. I never thought to do it. I am running 10.5.8
I think the fault must be with the server. Guess I will wait and see. At least I know I am not alone.
Dear friends,
From yesterday May 23 my iphone and my MAC mail rejects my password and cannot receive mails. I can send emails though. Moreover when i am visting my me.com account through web broweser everything works ok.
Any idea on what is wrong?
Is this a Uverse account or a MobileMe/dot mac account?
It is a MobileMe account. Thank you.
it happend to me sometimes
I think they're slowing nudging people to the fact that MobilMe & .mac is going away shortly in favor of iCloudinees! 😟
Get an iCloud account first.
MobileMe & dot Mac will still work last I heard.
iCloud Mail setup, even in 10.4/10.5…
Don't delete your old account yet. Just setup a new one in Mail>Preferences>Accounts, little plus icon. Choose IMAP as account type, not ,mac or MobileMe.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. I followed your instructions and the latest messages came in. You should inform the folks at iCloud chat. I tried to get help last night and was told that I needed OS Lion because iCloud couldn't sync with my system. I thought this odd since iCloud had been syncing for months..
Great news thanks! 🙂
We're just other users here, no way to contact iCloud chat folks, other than the way you did.
Thank you so much BDAqua!!!! I followed your instructions and I have solved the problem on my Iphone mail setup!!!Though I still have a problem setting up my Mail Account in my macbook. When I push the + button it appears a step by step window where it asks me to put my email and password and then to press continue. When I do that the same message comes out that I am using an incorrect password. Do you have any idea and avoid this going through windows?
Thank you again for being so kind to assist.
My MAIL is version 4.5 (1084)
Sometimes you have to trick Mail out of trying to think for you, my guess is that Mail used the old built-in mail.me.com instead of imap.mail.me.com & such once it sees a. me/.mac addy.
So, painfully add a bogus IMAP account for something like vassil@vassil.com, wait for mail to give up on those steps where it tries to connect, then continue to the end where this bogus account is setup, then go back in & edit the server info & whatever else to the real one.
Thank you so much! The only think I had to do was to just press continue instead of the falilure message. So it took me through the other wizard where i could put all your valuable information above. I manage to solve it and I have all my mails back. Thank you so much for your really valuable help. You are amazing! Thanks again.
