Most cracks are deemed to be caused by physical damage to the Mac and as such are not covered by the warranty. All of this is a quess, the only way to know for sure is to take it into Apple so that they can see the damage and make a determination as to the cause of the problem.

They will replace it, but not from the warranty. They'll assume it was from physical stress. My brother accidentally cracked a portion of his screen and it was around $500 for Apple to replace.
