I suspect that the files are only clippings from some unreadable PC photo program or that your thumb drive is formatted for windows only instead of FAT-32.

May 20, 2012 10:40 AM in response to den.thedby 1formerpcer,I've been able to download other files (MS Word & pdf's) from my old pc by using the thumb drive, so the imac is able to recognize the thumb drive. I also tried e mailing the photo as a file attachment. When I opened up the attachment on the imac it just appeared as a blank page.
(I should note that my method of downloading photos on the old computer was to just open up the camera from "my computer" and dlownload them. I never used any of the album starters or anything like that.)

May 20, 2012 10:55 AM in response to 1formerpcerby den.thed,I suspect there is something wrong with the way that you are trying to copy the photos to the iMac, because it should work just like the other files that you have already moved.
If you see the photo files on the thumb drive, then instead of trying to copy them to the iMac.
1. Open Finder, then open the thumb drive and try dragging them from the thumb drive to the iMac's Picture folder.
or
2. Open iPhoto and go to File Import, then in File Import navigate to the photos on thumb drive and Import the photos straight into iPhoto.
