Q: Canon 50D and IMac

Hi,

I have a problem with my canon 50D. Before I could just connect the camera with a usb cable and it would open up iphoto and I could easily download the pictures in the cf card. Now I can't anymore..what's wrong? Is that because I have got RAW photos in there? Or because the card is almost full? I have run all the updates i think..I have also tried with different cables and with different devices..it just won't recognize anything anymore! Help please!

ps I don't have the cd to install the canon software.

iMac, Mac OS X (10.7.4)

Hook up the Canon and open Image Capture. Now then if and when the Canon shows up in Image Capture, select the Canon in the list of Devices and redirect the images to import to iPhoto.

how about taking out the flash card and if it's SD or mmc then you can put it into the sdcard reader under the optical drive ?

HAve you made any changes to the system, software or hardware?

If Image Capture isn;t seeing the camera when it is plugged in you should try a different CF card in the camera, a different USB port and a different USB cable.

    Hi,

thanks for your help..I think the problem is the camera. I have found out that the firmware is not up to date.

I would like to update it but after I downloaded from the canon website the imac asks me with what application i want to open it??

    aaaarghhh!

You said this was working and then stopped working, correct? If so it's not likely that firmware is causing this. While updating the camera firmware is important I don't think that is the cause of the problem here.

Do you have another card to try? Another cable? Another USB port?

With the camera connected and powered on open System Information, either through Spotlight or go to the Utilities folder and start it from there or else do Apple Menu->About this Mac; More Info; System Report. You'll get the system information window. In the left hand column under Hardware select USB, you'll see something like:

Notice the entry above for Canon Digital Camera. If you're camera doesn't show here then it's definitely a cable, camera or USB port (or hub) problem

    Hi,

thanks a lot. Now I know definitely it is the camera. Tried all the usb ports and 3 different cables. What can it be?

Are you sure that it can't be the camera firmware?

I have ordered a card reader online..hope i can save the photos at least!

If you have any other suggestions..they're more than welcome!

    thank you!
