Iphone 3gs wotn activate after 5.1.1 update

I dont know why but ever since I updated my iphone 3gs 8GB to the new 5.1.1 firmware I am unable to activate it with my AT&T sim card and I know that this Iphone is from AT&T and I recieved it as a graduation present yesterday, so is there any way to fix this please? And I know that other users are having the same problems with the Iphone series after updating to IOS 5.1.1 is there a solution to activating my Iphone 3gs on this firmware?

Have you brought the phone to AT&T and tried another SIM card in it?

I would suggest following gdgmacguy's instruction! Either that or trying your SIM in another known good working iphone to see if it works there.

I took It to At&t and the guy who help me out tried the sim card on his iphone 3gs and it works but he tried his sim card and the Iphone still says that it cannot activate please connect to itunes and try activating it from there, he tried for one whole hour and then he found out that its aproblem with the itunes activatio server or rather shortly said wait for apple to fix this and try reactivating it, because it seems that the server is down and I have to wait

I've restored it three times already and it still wont activate and Itunes wont let me restore it since it cant activate it

I found out that it is indeed apples fault because I'm using the ping command to the apple servers and all Im getting is request timed out and 100% packet loss, meaning that their servers are down, hope they fix it soon, but isnt there a solution because I really need the phone due to my old one breaking up during work

Is there any way it's possible that 3GS iPhones w/o wirless service (for whatever reason -- loose SIM card, lapsed service, etc.) are having more 5.1.1 issues?

You might have a DNS server issue with your IP. Many people had this problem trying to download the iOS 5.1.1 from the Apple servers. Try changing your DNS settings.

Change DNS in OS X

Open System Preferences from the Apple menu

Click on “Network” and then click on ‘Advanced’ in the lower right corner

Click the “DNS” tab and then add a new DNS server by clicking the “+” icon, adding either “8.8.8.8″ for Google DNS or “208.67.222.222″ for OpenDNS

Drag the newly added DNS server to the top of the list, click “OK” then close out of System Preferences

Then try connecting to the Apple activation servers.

I had the same problem but I finally got it to activate. What I did was turn off the phone then turn it back on and when it says searching on the top left hurry up and finish the quick set up. After that it activated.

i downloaded it today and my iphone 3gs has came up continiously all day... "unable.." and when i attempt through itunes it says apparetly i have no sim card entered...

Will this fix itself??

I found a way but apple dont allow links to other websites, its to do with baseband, check on blog spot for solution, very simple american-seven

i had the same problem....i fixed it by downloading ios 4 for iphone 3gs then resn0w and going to extras then pwned DFU then follow the intructions. then open itunes hold shift while clicking restore(option on mac ithink) and choose the file for ios 4 then restore it.
