Q: Blank screen but working

Hello

This is a thread I read in many sites on the net but I'd like to know if someone would have an idea to fix the problem

I have  a friend who wanted to sell me her IBOOK G3 800mhz 14 inch , when I tried it it was running perfect except a bit slow.. then she called me later on to tell me the screen went black and she already gave it to repair cos it comes from the video card.

I did what I read on forums etc.. on google. Applied metal parts under the GPU which runs very hot like the Wallstreet powerbook (the piece of art) . The screen then started to blink trying to switch on. I even had it blinking with straight color lines...

Pressing the side of the Track pad won't do anything at all

I started it with the T mode on my cube and it works perfect! I even Techtooled it but I can't do the test with video etc since I'm using the cube. SO the comp works fine.

My question is after I tried most things have u got other tries before I dessassemble it completely?! is the screen dead or just a part of the motherboard cos if it's working without the screen...

when turned on every keys works and wait for u to type the password. The only ones that don't work are the bright ones (since it's related to the screen)

thanks for reading.

hey, I bought the cable to get an external screen but it's VGA strange from Apple who uses ADV n DVI! so I tried my 7220 powermac screen with tons of adaptaters but nothing's coming... I guess the whole screen part is dead hence the ship for that fontion...

when starting it I got some fun fast light white or blue... changing to the old cables n board back n forth.. I even think there could be a screen tired cable ...

who knows. but thanks anyway for your continued support.

    I have a 2003 G4 to repair...hope I'll get luckier

If it will not work with an external display, suspect the notorious logic board problem.

    Better luck with the G4.

ahha this is one thing I've checked first but of course out of time so wasn't answering my question! I even thought of buying a new screen cable Welovemacs sells...

the thing is even the computer goes to sleep! so their is only the screen that drives me mad but yep it seems it's just a component problem that's what came to my mind after I tried and bought both important inverters.

I think it is a transistor cos there is a smell around the ports usb etc..

just need to see if it's replaceable or not cos the logic board is the main part and cost $300 ! can buy three ibooks for that price on ebay

    anyway once again thank u

I have  a 2003 G4 Tower Mirror doors that seems to die slowly but once again if it's the logic board...

    take care
