Issue with IMac

Hello All,

Yesterday I turned on my IMac and I was welcomed to this screen. I attempted to reboot the system multiple times but it did not solve the issue. When I attempt to login, the system just "beach balls" and eventually asks to reboot the machine. Can anyone diagonise the issue?

Thank you.

Hard Drive failure is a possibility, but HDD Corruption seems a tat more likely at the moment.

Could be many things, we should start with this...

"Try Disk Utility

1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.

2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)

*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*

3. Click the First Aid tab.

4. Select your Mac OS X volume.

5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."

Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.

(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)

If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.

Couple issues that showed as RED during the Disk Repair:

-Invalid sibling link

-Incorrect number of thread records

-Invalid directory item count (It should be 208 instead of 222)

-Incorrect number of Extended Atributes

-Invalid volume free block count

-Volume Header needs minor repair

-Invalid map mode

After it finished, it stated the Mac HD was repaired successfully.

Took the computer in to a Apple store and pretty much got raped. The hard drive needs replacing, the display unit needs replacing and lastly the graphics card needs to be replaced. Total charges for everything, $1006. I'm sorry but f**k that. And ofcourse if I had Apple Care, it would have expired in April which I would have miss the deadline to bring it in for repairs. I understand the hard drive failing after 3 years, but the display unit and graphics card?
