Q: how do I cancel a purchase made by a child?

My child made a purchase of $50.00 from ITunes without asking me first (I would have said no of course) How do I cancel it? He tried to do it yesterday so it showed up in my email today, I want to cancel it before it goes onto my Visa!

Officially all purchases are final and you can't cancel one and get a refund (for fairly obvious reasons). If you contact Support and ask them nicely they may agree to refund you just this once, but please be aware that they are under absolutely no obligation to do so.

Go to https://expresslane.apple.com ; select 'iTunes' in the first column and then 'iTunes Store' in the second column

Children should not have access to your iTunes account password.  Consider even setting up a different account for your child on the computer, and enable parental permissions.

You should also consider removing credit card information from your account so no unconsidered purchases can be made by anybody.  iTunes Store: Changing Account Information - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1918

How do I set up a different account for the kids? In my house we all (4 of us including my 7 year old daughter) have an Ipod (except my 15 year old has the IPad) So, I have my ITunes account on my macbook and all of their apps are on my account and always get mixed together when I plug in each device, I would rather have each one seperate and not have their game apps on my Ipod but I have no idea how to do it. The kids do not have computers so the only way they can update or do anything on ITunes is on my computer. Can I have 1 IPad and 2 IPods with different accounts on my 1 laptop? If so, how do I do it?

I'm kind of busy right now so I'll just suggest basics.   I also use an older version of the operating system so what i suggest might now identically match what you;d see.

Apple > System Preferences > Accounts  you may need to unlock your administrator account. Now + to add a new user account. Do not make it an adminstrator.    Give it a name a child likes but is simple, because you cannot easily change it later.  You can also set up Parental controls from this window.

Learn some basics on how iTunes works with files and that "library" actually means a specific file that points to media files that can be shared, or not.

What are the iTunes library files? - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1660

More on iTunes library files and what they do - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ITunes#Media_management

What are all those iTunes files? - http://www.macworld.com/article/139974/2009/04/itunes_files.html

Note the two things below are not identical:

iTunes: How to share music between different accounts on a single computer - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1203 - relocating iTunes' media folder to a shared area but leaving separate library files - extra tip at https://discussions.apple.com/message/17331189

Chris CA's instructions on sharing one iTunes music library between multiple user accounts - https://discussions.apple.com/message/8974074 - Multiple users using a single library file - similar post at: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3753008

If you have enough room on the computer it would be ideal for each person to have their completely independent collection.  That way if somebody doesn't like a file they delete just their own copy, not everybody's shared copy.  The big problem with having multiple users, especially children, sharing one account is it can quickly result in chaos and lost files.

Presumably they've cancelled it as they can't charge you for it? You will need to sort out any problems with your card with your card issuer.

Under the account billing information in the iTunes Store you now have the option to remove a credit card. This allows them to only purchase FREE items from the iTunes music and app stores.

I'm not sure why people have to post condescending replies to a simple question.  There is indeed a simple answer, and here it is.

Log into your iTunes account>go to "Account" on the top of the screen>scroll down to "View My Account">you will be prompted to sign-in again>scroll down to "Purchase History" and click on "See All">scroll down to the bottom of the page and click the "Report a Problem">scroll to the purchased item and beside the purchased item you will need to scroll over the "Report a Problem" next to the purchased item name>you will be prompted what the issue is.  Boom your done.  Apple is good to their customers and take care of them.
