Blackmagic intensity pro not working. Has PCIe been broken with 10.7.4?

Hey there

I have a 2010 Mac Pro (5,1). 8 core. 24 gigs or RAM

I'm having trouble with my Blackmagic Intensity Pro PCI card. I've installed all drivers, tried all the different PCI ports and still my MP fails to recognise it. In the system preferences panel, all options are greyed out and a message says "No Settings Required".

At first I thought it'd be a faulty card, but then I tried the card on my friend's 2008 Mac Pro, and it works just fine. What could possibly be wrong? Are the PCI slots on my machine damaged? Is there anyway to test this?

I'm under a massive deadline, so any help will be greatly appreciated.

You are the only person I have read who has reported such a problem to date.

Talk to the card vendor to see if they know about problems or have updated drivers. It is also possible the card has failed.

Perhaps it continues to work great in that other system you tested, but in yours it needs a firmware update, or needs to be replaced.

Ask the Vendor.

Have you tried resetting the SMC?

I have a 2007 Mac Pro (2,1) running 10.7.4 and don't have any issues with my Intensity Pro. I am running older drivers though from April 2011.

Thanks for your replies. My friend's MP... I don't know what he's running (hes away at the moment). Prob not 10.7.4 but something before that.

And resetting the SMC: if that is just a matter of turning power off and disconnecting AC cable, wouldnt that automaitcally be done every time i unplug the MP to put the PCIe card in?

In any case, if its of any interest to anyone, the BM Intensity card is notoriously bad capturing VHS tapes (which is what I wanted to do). Frames drop everywhere, audio drifts out of sync wildy...

In the end, the best solution is to hookup the VHS deck to a DV cam and capture via firewire. Simple solution. Looks perfect

SMC involves always pressing the power on button for 5-10 seconds while unplugged (and all the cables and devices unplugged).

2010's by default boot 64-bit kernel. Need 64-bit drivers to do so.

Even though it has 24GB RAM, and 8 cores, depends on how fast/slow those cores are; and what their storage setup - assume it is as good as needed. Scratch arrays, free space, save and export target drives.

If they aren't running 10.7.3 and no need probably to do so, then they would have 10.6.8+ and be fine (not everyone and everything was and is ready for Lion even a year later).

Yes, that should reset the SMC.

you aren't hitting the power switch for 10 seconds while unplugged, so no they are not the same.

Apple changed How to Reset SMC at least 4 times. That is older and was superceeded I am pretty sure besides which some "'methods" just were hit or miss and mostly miss.

Well, the Knowledge Base article was last updated January 19, 2012 and I couldn't find anything more recent.

I've got an older Mac Pro and still just press the button if I want to reset the SMC. 😀
