Q: How do I upgrade to 4GB or 2x2GB RAM on a MacBook?

I have a mid 2010 white MacBook with 2GB RAM and I want to upgrade to higher RAM. I know my limit is 4GB and I read how to do it on the website. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1651#link1 But I need to know where to buy it, and if it is really worth it. Should i buy online or from the store. Any help would be apprectiated.

Crucial and OWC are RAM vendors that are well thought of, and I have used both of them. Order online unless you need it really fast, otherwise look for a local dealer.

Considering I am new to this, how to i go about purchasing. Do I buy one 2GB chip and add it with the existing 2GB chip? Or do I have to buy two 2GB chips from the store

If what you have in there now is a single 2GB module, just buy one more of those.

One more. I opened my laptop to check and I seem to hae two 1GB cards. Therefore if I have bought one 2GB card then it's not going to work. I would need two 2GB cards to be able to run all 4 GB. As i cannot run 3GB... unless there is a 3rd slot that i missed

You can run 3GB if you want, just use one of the 1GB as well as the 2GB. There is no need for matching pairs. No there is not a 3rd slot.
