Best All in one printer for Mac Lion
Looking for the best printer that is compatable with Lion. Any thoughts out there?
Any printer of companies like HP, Canon, Epson, Samsung, etc. works with Lion. I use a HP printer via Wi-Fi and it works fine

You never gave any specifics as to what your needs are. Do you need color? How do you need to connect: USB, Ethernet, ot wireless?
If you just need black and white, then go for a laser printer. I use an HP multifunction 1516. It has no wireless card, but I have it connected to my netword to the router with Ethernet. Very low cost, quick printing and full duplex mode for automatic 2 sided printing.
I'm not a fan of injects as they are initially cheap but ink is very expensive. I went through 5 injects compared to the cheap laser printer i had that lasted 15 years. The HP I bought 2 years ago should last a long time. Haven't had any prolblems with compability issues.
I use an HP LaserJet M1536dnf black and white laser printer, scanner, fax, copier connected to my home router via ethernet. After a firmware upgrade, it also acts as an iOS AirPrint device allowing us to print directly from our iPad and iPod Touch devices.
As with Glenn LeBlanc, I avoid inkjet printers because of the cost, cartridges drying out, inkjets clogging etc..., especially since I mostly print documents and rarely need the color. I figure I can go to a local drugstore or similar with a USB thumb drive and get color prints if I need them.
Finally, I always look for a printer with Postscript support. Over the years I have found that a Postscript printer ALWAYS works on any computer system (even if the vendor stops providing drivers), at least for the basic function of printing. I have lost access to perfectly good printers in the past when an OS version upgrade resulted in old printer drivers no longer working, and the vendor did not provide updated drivers. Most operating system provides provide default Postscript drivers.

Well said on the injets BOB. I got tired of ink drying out, etc. Unless you use them often, you don't get full use of the ink cartridges. And ink is much more expensive than Laser cartridges per amount of pages printed.
For anyone considering an HP, I've had some real wireless connection problems with the HP Officejet Pro 8500A. Resets were very common. Additionally, the ADF broke after a year of use, and I've found this seems to be a common problem with this printer - not fixed with the newest models.
I have a Kodak 7200-something color inkjet and scanner. Use it over wifi with my MBP with OS X Lion and it scans (wirelessly) and prints fine. Ink is cheap but runs out a bit quicker than one might like. It also has a built in duplexer for double sided printing. It cost me something like $129 a year or so ago.
I like my Canon MX700. It has been compatible with 10.4 through 10.7.3 I haven't checked 10.7.4 yet.
I used to be an HP and Cannon guy, but I'm now in love with Epson. They just seem to offer more value for the money. My printer works with all my apple products and so far it's holding up like a champ. I always expect my printer to be an afterthought and my latest Epson is just that. I always surf the reviews to make a final call, but my Epson Wireless printer has certainly done me right!

Which HP do you have. I want to buy a 4 in 1 that will print and fax with no problems. I am running Mountain Lion 10.8.2

Love the handle BTW! Several things to take into consideration also, how much printing do you do? 100 pages a month or 1000 pages month? Do you print just documents/faxes (monochrome) or do you also want to print with color/photo quality? Will you be scanning frequently and want a very high resolution scanner, would it be beneficial to have an ADF to scan multiple pages at the same time? Do you duplex? How about a card reader, do you want to print directly from your camera's memory card? Compatibility? Don't forget budget, this one can drive a lot of the conversation. Taking a few minutes to sit down and doing an honest "needs assessment" with yourself and your printing/faxing needs can go a long way to avert a disappointing experience down the road not to mention the wasted money. I'm not partial towards any one company. I've had an Epson 850 that failed, Brother laser that later I learned was not as good quality for photography as inkjet, a Lexmark that failed, and HP 870Cse that failed, and my Cannon was dead after the return period, and I had to take it in to a local service center. While they did fix it, the time without a working printer could have been done without if the you could get a decent printer for a low price. Unfortunately the price of overseas labor has resulted in less quality control. But the overall image quality has improved on all printers. Getting a printer with separate colors is helpful. Getting one with just the things you need is ideal.
Hi 4Stix, I decided on the HP OfficeJet Pro 8600. After unpacking and setting up the printer I used the install disc and was directed to the HP website to dl the latest install package for OS10.8,2 and once that installed I was up and running on my wireless network. I have to say once again HP did the trick. Easy to connect to my wireless router and easy to set up printing capabilities with my MacBook Pro. I love my new HP 4 in 1.

I had the same question. After a lot of research, we went with an Epson. My wife and I generate a fair amount of paperwork from our home office. We are a Mac family and setup was seamless and the wireless printing and scanning worked like a charm. I particularly liked the two sided printing and the speed. This was a replacement for an old cranky Canon PIXMA MP800 which was still working and on its 3rd print head. I don't think that we will be using the Canon any more with this Epson installed. I also bought the InkOwl refillable cartridges and bulk Premium Pigmented ink for EPSON Durabrite printers. I did a refill of the black ink which was the first to run out. There were no problems with this easy to use re-inking process.
I have a Canon MP550 which I don't like. It absolutely chews through print-heads and replacements are expensive.
Also, the user-interface is all a bit over-complicated with too many shortcuts, lots of technowaffle (eg choice of which driver you want to use - what do I care?) and in short it seems more like a Windows product.
For my next printer I am looking for something that has a clean and simple user-interface that fits with the Mac look better than Canon.
