Q: iPod Classic won't connect to itunes, and hasn't been turning off. (Have tried the reboot several times)

My iPod has not been turning off for sometime, and now i've gone to add some more videos to it it had decided to not connect to my computer. It at first was recognised but now doesnt seem so. It flashes to show the standard sync screen but then cuts out and is stuck on the reboot screen. I have tried resetting the settings and rebooting several times. is this just a case of my technophobia and repeling technology or an issue than can be fixed?

    Try placing the iPod in Disk Mode and connecting it to your PC.  This should keep the iPod from rebooting and mount the iPod as an external volume on your Windows PC viewable from My Computer or Computer.  If you can successfully place the iPod into Disk Mode and have it recognized by iTunes, restore it to factory settings.

    Putting iPod devices with a Click Wheel into Disk Mode

    1. If necessary, verify that your iPod has a Click Wheel.
    2. Before placing the iPod into Disk Mode, verify that it is charged.
    3. Toggle the Hold switch on and off (set it to Hold, then turn it off again.)
    4. Press and hold the Menu and Select buttons for at least six seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    5. When the Apple logo appears, release the Menu and Select buttons and immediately press and hold the Select and the Play/Pause buttons until the Disk Mode screen appears.

    6. Connect the iPod to your computer; the screen on the iPod will should say "Do not disconnect".

    If you are having difficulty putting your iPod into Disk Mode, set it on a flat surface. Make sure that the finger pressing the Select button is not touching the Click Wheel. Also make sure that you are pressing the Play/Pause button toward the outside of the Click Wheel and not near the center. If you are still unable to put your iPod into Disk Mode, use one finger from one hand to press the Select button, and one finger from the other hand to press the Play/Pause button.

     

    It wouldn't hurt to also try a different USB sync cable to rule out a faulty/damaged cable. Plug the iPod into a high powered USB 2.0 port as well.  The iPod may not be receiving enough output from the iPod to stay connected.  This means you should unplug all other USB devices as well minus your keyboard and mouse if it's a desktop.

    I did this and changed wire, port and laptop and still no reponse. The ipod is functioning, but wont turn off, and when i go through and do the stages involving uninstalling and reinstalling the exeternal storage devidce i get error 21 and as soon as it corrects its self it is not working again.

    My iPod has been doing this too. It stays on the loading screen for 5 minutes and then says "Connect to iTunes to restore," but iTunes doesn't pick it up. I can't switch between disk mode and normal mode, but it seems to go into disk mode when I plug it into my computer (iMac) but it still doesn't pick it up.

    having exact same issues with my iPod expect it was fine during the day had it just on my bed was listening to it bout an hour ago went to have a shower came back said I had no songs on it so tried things I had done before to fix that still know change than pluged into comp to restore it did that said ok to disconnect then went to plug into put music and it just stopped I've also had to restore it bout 7 or 8 times before and have had to restore it twice in 1 day also had a few problems with it not playing some songs and freezing alot would apple relpace it if I explained this to them cause I think it might be a problem with the hard drive cause it says error when trying to check hard drive and stuff I've only ever droped it once and it was bout a 20cm drop to soft floor when I was laying down what should I do?.
